연제 : Epigenetic control of floral transition by vernalization in Arabidopsis model plants

Abstract

Epigenetic DNA and histone modifications play a fundamental role in gene regulation. Histone modifiers can be grouped into three categories; (1) Writer, (2) Reader, and (3) Eraser. Especially, Polycomb complexes (PRC1 and PRC2) which act to repress targets gene by catalyzing trimethylation of histone H3 lysine 27 residue (H3K27me3). Vernalization-mediated floral transition is an excellent model system to study epigenetic modification in plants. In this floral transition, polycomb complexes acts to mediate silencing of the floral repressor, FLOWERING LOCUS C (FLC)during the process of vernalization in Arabidopsis. Not only in individual gene level, Polycomb complexes seem to be highly involved in chromosome architectural changes (i.e. gene looping) in a genome-wide level. Polycomb complexes are required to achieve a repressive intragenic chromatin loop at the FLC locus by vernalization. Therefore, this seminar focuses to introduce molecular function of Polycomb proteins in terms of epigenetic gene regulation.
