Abstract

There is increasing concern about the potential impact of global climate changes, which significantly affect ambient temperature, on plant growth and development. Especially, the floral transition (vegetative phase to reproductive phase) is an important process in the life cycle of flowering plants, because their reproductive success depends on it. To determine the right timing of flowering, plants respond to many environmental signals such as day length and temperature. Even small changes in ambient temperature also control flowering process, although our understanding of the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying this flowering pathway (ambient temperature pathway or thermosensory pathway) is still limited. However, recent advances in Arabidopsis have uncovered the various molecular mechanisms regulating ambient temperature-responsive flowering. Today, I introduce the molecular mechanisms involved in SHORT VEGETATIVE PHASE(SVP), FLOWERING LOCUS M(FLM), miRNAs, and others under ambient temperature conditions.
